Madison McAllister, CMHC

Hi, my name is Madison, and I am a Clinical Mental Health Counselor. I have been working in the field for the last 20 years and have a passion for the work. I am very compassionate and direct. I believe that everyone can heal and that facing the pain is where healing begins.

My approach:

I use a variety of approaches to therapy including internal family systems (IFS), cognitive processing (CPT) and trauma informed care. I have learned the importance of getting to the core of the issue and then empower individuals to heal from there.

My focus:

I have worked with clients with depression, anxiety and those who struggle with understanding their value. Yet, over the last few years I have been working with first responders and the military which has been rewarding. Trauma comes in all forms. Sometimes individuals will say they have nothing that could be identified as such, since their life is normal for them. Sometimes not feeling seen or getting your needs met could be a foundational way pain was created.

My communication style:

My approach is compassionate and direct. I will often challenge unkind and mean narratives that clients have created in their view of self and this empowers them to rebuild their sense of self and find a renewed way to live their lives. Recognizing patterns in thinking and personal storytelling keeps pain fresh and creates insight into new ways to interact with themselves and the world around them.

My journey to mental healthcare:

During my mid-30s, I felt a change within and felt like I emotionally "hit a wall." At that time, I found a therapist that I worked with consistently for many years. It was painful, yet liberating, and I felt as though I had been awakened to something very new, a new view of self and where I fit in the world. I knew then I had to give back to others what had been life changing for me and I am very passionate about it.

My goals for you:

I try to interact with clients by asking lots of questions. I remember times when I was in pain and didn't really know what I wanted. Remembering this has helped me check in with clients throughout the time working with them to make sure the work is a collaborative effort, and they are driving the bus so to speak.

My first session with you:

From the beginning I work with clients to create rapport and make sure I understand what they are looking for. I want to understand their style of communication and meet them where they are comfortable.
